Founder & President, Walsh Research Institute; PhD Chemical Engineering; internationally recognized expert in nutritional medicine
William J. Walsh, PhD, FACN, is the founder and president of the non-profit Walsh Research Institute and an internationally recognized expert in nutritional medicine, paving the way for nutrient-based psychiatry. Over the past 30 years he has developed biochemical treatments for patients diagnosed with behavioral disorders, autism, clinical depression, bipolar disorders, schizophrenia, and Alzheimer's disease, and has studied more than 30,000 patients with mental disorders, accumulating a database of more than 3 million chemical assays.
His accomplishments include groundbreaking studies on reduced violent behavior following nutrient therapy, the 1999 discovery of undermethylation and copper/zinc imbalances in autism, and the 2011 development of the Walsh Theory of Schizophrenia. While working at Argonne National Laboratory in the 1970s he organized a prison volunteer program that led to studies of prisoners and ex-offenders, and he has conducted chemical analysis of more than 25 serial killers and mass murderers. He is also the original patent holder of the lithium battery.
